27 12 2010

Location: 352 Bedford Ave @ S. 4th, Williamsburg

Menu: http://rabbitholerestaurant.com/index2.html

Brunch Hours: All week long (!), 8am – 5pm (!!)

My Rating: singlestalksinglestalksinglestalksinglestalk

Long Story Short: Good lord this place is good… and they serve brunch every day.  Bloody was awesome and if that’s not your thing they have many signature cocktails to choose from.  And you can get them at 8am on a Monday if you wanted.  Yay America!

Long Story Long:

All this annoying snow has got me thinking…. (aka i’m stuck in my house, dvr is empty and there is NOTHING on tv at all…)

Didn’t I used to have a blog?

YES! a BRUNCH blog. This one, as a matter of fact. Duh.

I started this post a few months ago and never finished it which is a shame because this egg sandwich quest has carried on, even in my long absence from writing about it.  In the new year, I am going to do my best to kill brunch more regularly (now that I only have one job I can’t complain about having no time anymore), but until then, here’s the tale of how I began an epic journey (aaand I had to hold myself back from writing “egg-pic”… oops, guess not.)… Read the rest of this entry »

Good… Bold Move

30 05 2010

Location: 89 Greenwich Ave, between Bank & W. 12th St, NYC

Menu: http://www.goodrestaurantnyc.com/BrunchPdf.pdf

Brunch Hours: Sat, 11am – 4pm, Sun 10am-4pm

My Rating: singlestalksinglestalksinglestalksinglestalk

Long Story Short: Holy crap – the BEST egg sandwich I have had in a very very long time… And the bloody wasn’t too shabby either.  A little pricey (bloody is $9.50), not in the hood, but well worth the trip. wow.

Long Story Long:

Who but the notorious Girlfriend Jones could get my ass to the city for brunch on the weekend?  I consented only when he promised it would be amazing.  And he delivered.  Oh man, did he deliver.

That being said,  it is a very bold move to name your restaurant with such a positive name.  Fortunately, in this case, they are right.  Actually, they should have called it FUCKING FANTASTIC. Read the rest of this entry »

Beco… Obrigado!

9 01 2010

Bloody #1 - Beco

Location: 45 Richardson St @ Lorimer St, Williamsburg

Menu: http://becobar.com/menu.htm

Brunch Hours: Sat & Sun, 10am – 4pm

My Rating: singlestalksinglestalksinglestalksinglestalk

Long Story Short: $15 for an ample entree plus a cocktail & amazing coffee or tea.  The food is excellent, the bloodys were great as was their signature cocktail – a passion fruit capiroska.  You have to try this place, trust me.

Long Story Long:

Fucking holidays… seriously.  I didn’t realize so many places closed down for so damn long during this time of year.  Annoying…. but please don’t think I went bloodyless for nearly three weeks. Heeeell no.  I took the opportunity to revisit some of my favorites like Lokal & give others a second chance (thanks but no thanks Flying Cow.  I stand by my original opinion).

In any case, as it was a new year, I was anxious to try a new place.  BFFF and I chose Beco.  Actually, we had been trying to go there for about 2 weeks but they were closed for the holiday – argh.  We finally managed to make it there for dinner one night and… amazing.  As frustrated as I had been trying to go there in the first place, this was definitely the place we would be having brunch at the following weekend. permbrunch

******CLOSED. BOO. ***************

Location: 95 First Avenue, between 5th & 6th St, New York, NY

Menu: http://www.permanentbrunch.com/

Brunch Hours: All day, everyday, M-F open at 11:30, Sat & Sun, open at 9:30

My Rating: singlestalksinglestalksinglestalksinglestalk

Long Story Short: Holy shit – this place is like my dream come true. Amazing homemade bloodys, an artisanal bacon bar… A little pricey, but I would GLADLY shell out another $9 for that bloody. Good lord…

Long Story Long:

Ok yes – this is not technically a road trip, I know…. but as it falls outside of the confines of the burg, and I went there on a weekday, let’s call it one.

So I was having kind of a shitty week when my BFFF suggested that we have lunch to celebrate the end of it.  Since it was practically the weekend and I sort of had the afternoon off, we decided to finally try this place.  I met her there and she had a huge smile on her face having just heard the rundown of signature cocktails.  She had already ordered me a bloody, explaining that the mix was homemade from fresh tomatoes and reportedly incredible.  This was no overstatement.  I honestly may be ruined for life – it was fantastic, and immediately lifted my spirits.  The second one lifted them even further…. buttermilk

Location: 524 Court St, Carroll Gardens

Menu: http://www.buttermilkchannelnyc.com/menus/Brunch.pdf

Brunch Hours: Sunday, 10am – 3pm

My Rating: singlestalksinglestalksinglestalksinglestalk

Long Story Short: The food is amazing – absolutely worth the travel time and expense.  Shout-outs to the cheddar waffles and oyster bloody marys. Get there early as they stop serving at 3pm.

Long Story Long:

It’s very rare that any of my friends have the wherewithal to operate a car on a weekend afternoon, but we made a special exception this time and prepared in advance.  By that I mean, I think someone was on antibiotics that weekend and couldn’t drink, or something.  In any case, words cannot describe my joy from this place.   Read the rest of this entry »

My Favorite Bloody Mary in Williamsburg - Elote

Location: 366 Union Ave @ Grand St, Williamsburg

Menu: http://www.eloterestaurant.com (just the regular menu)

Brunch Hours: Sat & Sun, 11:30a – 3:30p

My Rating: singlestalksinglestalk

Long Story Short: $12 includes coffee and a cocktail, probably my favorite bloody mary in the neighborhood.  Make sure you have a taste for mexican food.

Long Story Long:

Elote… how i dream about your bloody mary….

Sooo… not to overstate, but in my very humble opinion, this is the very best bloody mary in all of Williamsburg.  Perhaps in all of New York… again, not to overstate.  It’s big.  It’s spicy.  Wonderful.  Disagree if you want, but i stand by it as my favorite for sure (and the sangria ain’t too shabby either).

The food here is good too, provided you are feeling mexican food.  They have chilaquiles – according to my mexican friend the one and only hangover cure Read the rest of this entry »
